This is the time of year that we start getting very excited about spring fly fishing here in Western Montana. The days are getting longer and day time temperatures are just a tad warmer. One of the first great hatches of the year is the Skwalla Stone fly. A nice big bug (think size 8 or 10) that is easy to see and the trout just love them! The Bitterroot, Clark Fork, and Rock Creek all have a great Skwalla hatch. The Bitterroot usually comes in to play first with the others quickly behind.
If you love spring time fishing this is the hatch to hit. Book your trip now to get in on some great early season dry fly fishing!
