I had the privilege of guiding retired US Army Sargent, Keith Gilbert. Keith did multiple tours in Iraq and suffered life changing injuries while protecting our freedoms. And yet, all that he has been through, he would give up everything he has to still be in the Army helping do his part for our country. But unfortunately Keith’s injuries prevent him from doing so. A traumatic brain injury, PTSD, fused discs in his back…this guy went through hell for us. Keith, like so many of our military heros, struggle to get the help they need. Red tape like crazy, then they get the run around, and eventually they lose hope.
Thankfully, there are great Organizations like Project Healing Waters. They give our vets hope again and help the healing began through the great sport of fly fishing. I am so proud to be part of this great group of people that genuinely want to help our vets in need. We all become family, so not only did I make a new fishing buddy in Keith, but I have a new brother as well. We had a lot of fun and ended up tying for 3rd place when it was all over.
Huge thanks to Ed Felker for todays photo. You always capture the moment, Ed. Well done!
